Flexi Rods….New Love???

Flexi Rods….New Love???

A few days ago I was cleaning my closest and food a bag of 20 or so orange flexi-rods. Guess my sis forgot to pack them with her college stuff. Well I went out and bout 20 more but the purple ones.

I was so anxious I tried them out using about 30  rods. I set them with Kinky Curly Knot Today and ORS Lock and Twist Gel. I dried them for about an hour after force them to fit.

Unfortunately sleep was hell to say the least. I may have twisted them too tight so my roots would be smooth….never again. It was so painful next time I’m going to dry them fully during the day. I had to rush and separate to get to school in time.

I ended up rocking a beret but that flattened some out. Otherwise, I love the results. I used way too much gel but other than that I smooth some coconut oil and I was good. The curls are super bouncy and silky.

Hopefully I can achieve some type of 2nd day style but I plan to try them out again for a party Friday.

Check out the links below for some tutorials, trails, blogs, etc….they helped me A LOT!!!!:

White Distilled Vinegar Hair Rinse

White Distilled Vinegar Hair Rinse

Mahisha Dellinger, curly hair expert, and creator of the Curls products provided a tip of the day to fight frizz for Urban Curlz and Newly Natural. I tired one last night and I must say it was pretty nice.

Instead of my usually ACV rinse before a DC I tired using white vinegar. I used 1 part vinegar and 2 parts water, placed it in an applicator bottle, then poured it all over my scalp and hair.

I rinsed my hair first, then followed with the vinegar rinse and let it sit for a few minutes. My hair did feel very soft. I even notcied it made my hair slippery which made detangling super quick. The slip made it to my hands making them feel a little weird.

Her other tip was using honey. I use it all the time but as it gets colder out I limit my use of humecants like honey becasue it can dry out hair becasue of the lack of moisture in the air.

Overall I liked the rinse and might add it too my reggie after I do some additional research.

Big Hair Don’t Care…Ego Edition

Big Hair Don’t Care…Ego Edition

I know you guys have seen the video for Ego by Beyonce……welllll…. I’m thinking of doing a sew-in weave similar to this as a protective style for the rest of the month. I have never had a sew-in with curly hair. I’m a bit nervous that it will be too diva but my new slogan has been “big hair don’t care” the past week.

Well please weigh in guys. Do you think this style is too over the top…distracting….wig looking  or do you think its hot???…Just let me know something guys I don’t want to look Halloweenish before it gets here.

XOXO,

Angelique

P.S.  I had to put the remix up…I only like Kanye because he’s from Chicago and his verse is funny.

Coconut Craziness Pt.2 of ??

Coconut Craziness Pt.2 of ??

For this edition of coconut craziness I will concentrate of hair products with coconut oil or coconut milk. I haven’t tired all of them and I’m sure there are more out there but these are the ones I use, have heard about,  or want to try……

Hair Oils:

I use this oil for pretty much every thing. It’s about $10 at Whole Foods and lasts forever. I use it as a scalp oil, deep treatments, and for my body as well.

I haven’t tried this oil but I see it all the time in my local Indian grocery store. Its infused with my fav herbs like alma and brahmi.

Now these suckers a fricking expensive but my pj wants to try them out. These scented coconut oils are$30 for 8.4oz. or $12 for 2 oz. The yummy scents are so tempting. I comes in green tea, lavender (my weakness), heavenly peach, oriental jasmine, rose, and unscented.

Coconut Milk:

I love this stuff I actually use the Whole Foods brand which is a few cents cheaper. I’m sure it’s even cheaper at TJ’s too. You can use it to kick up rice to the Jamaican restaurants use it in the red beans and rice.

Conditioners:

This is decent co-wash. I used it alone when first going CG. Its nothing special but a lot of people swear by it.

This condish is by Curls and called Coconut Sublime. This line is next on my list to try especially since its available on ground at a local salon.

This is something new to me. I love the 100% Pure brand and just found out they had this conditioner. Its called Honey Coconut Milk Conditioner. It’s $18 for 8 oz. and packed with great vegetarian ingredients.

A lot of girls on NC.com use this brand I might have to try it sometime. It’s also available at Target another plus.

Stylers:

This gel has coconut milk in it and has a super soft hold. I use it for bantu knot outs but I’m thinking I need to use it more often. This is also available at BSS and drugstores as low as $2 or $3 I’m thinking about getting the gallon one day.

Well thats about it for now. I’m thinking of doing a part 3 on body products and a part 4 with recipes. Also share your fav coconut products.

XOXO,

Angelique

TnC Results….

TnC Results….

DSC07998

If this face doesn’t say it I don’t know what to tell you. Well It was actually better but after rushed fluffing….a full day of playing in my hair in class….getting a little rain leaving Whole Foods…and it being almost midnight this twist and curl just didn’t cut it today.

DSC08013

There are so many things to blame the humidity was 93% today and the dew point was 53 degrees. I also think my hair needs more hold. I’m considering trying it again on dry hair tonight. If that doesn’t work then I might need to add a tad of gel into the mix.

Well all wasn’t bad my hair was actually a lot more defined and cuter this morning. I also can’t stop touching my hair is soooo soft and light. I also picked up some Kinky Curly Knot Today and Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose….oh and this super cute hair clip (thanks mommy for supporting my pj’ism).

Well let me know what you think in the mean time it’s back to Meteor Man on BET lol.

What the Bottle Says:

  • Compare to: Paul Mitchell The Detangler
  • Detangles instantly
  • Smoothes and softens
  • Adds instant shine
  • Diminishes static

For medium to coarse and chemically treated hair. Used daily, GVP Conditioning Detangler will leave your hair smooth, soft, shiny and static free. Helps to protect hair from harmful UV rays. An extremely moisturizing, fast detangling conditioner

What I Say:

Overall I really liked this product. The slip was out this world thanks to the behentrimonium methosulfate. My hair felt soft and moisturized. I used it as a co-wash but I plan to try it in a twist out. I will definitely re-purchase. Its a good budget condish. It smells like cheap cocoa butter lotion but I kind of like it. The overall performance as a co-wash was great. My hair was clean and detangled. I’m not sure if I would use it daily because of the fragrance ingredients and the coloring but once or twice a week might be my plan. I also love Sally’s return policy. I didn’t like  the Tea Tree Oil condish so I switched it out and got this which was a dollar cheaper and did what  I wanted.

Price: $4.99 for 16oz

Availability: Sally’s Beauty Supplies and Website

Rating:4 out of 5 diamonds  (lost a diamond for some questionable fragrance, color ingredients, and thickeners)

Trader Joe’s Nourish Spa Conditoner Review

Trader Joe’s Nourish Spa Conditoner Review

…Whew that was a lot but after reading some many good reviews I had to try it out.

Whats In It:

Purified water, rosemary oil, valencia orange, mango, lemongrass, ginko giloba, echinacea, willow bark, sea kelp, chamomile flower, textured soy protein, lavender, grapefruit, tocopherol (Vitamin E), acetamide MEA, cetyl alcohol, citric acid, methylparaben, propylparaben, botanical fragrance (italics might be a prob for some)

What the Bottle Says:

When your hair is dry, it needs to be nourished. This balanced hair remoisturizer is ideal for replenishing dry, brittle hair. Perfect for daily use. It infuses moisture and esceptional shine, without weighing hair down. Enhanced with organic botanticals, it does not contain laurel/laureth sulfates.

Price: $2.99 for 16.9 oz.

Available: Trader Joe’s Stores

What I Think:

I used it as a co-wash today and immediately upon placing in my hair the slip was amazing. It was really moisturizing compared to my usual co-wash of Sauve or VO5. I was so moisturizing that my not sure of how cleansing it is but it did get all my gel out. It was super thick but not so thick you can’t get it out the bottle. You also only have to use a little so you don’t have to worry about going through the bottle quickly. Overall I think its a keeper … just wished it didn’t have the parbens.

Rating:

  • 4.5 out 5 diamonds
  • smell, moisture, performance, and slip all rocked… the parbens kept this from getting 5 diamonds.

Curly Obsession: Raven-Symone

Curly Obsession: Raven-Symone

I would have never guess Miss Raven-Symone was a curly. I’m a few years late but so what I love her and her hair. A few people have done some posts. I even hear there is a pic of her TWA out there.  Raven is officially one of my curly obsessions. She’s been doing her thing for years I don’t even have to mention the shows you already know the deal. Olivia is all grown up and the same age as me, 23…doing her thang!!!!

Love this look very similar to my signature mohawk…

Love the color two I think I might have to try this out.

You gotta have fun everyday can’t be perfect.

Love, Love, Love this!!!!!

More Eco Styling

More Eco Styling

Hi there curlies,

Today I co-washed for the last time with my GVP Tea Tree Oil Condish (something just isn’t right about this stuff). Then I did my version of a plop to dry my hair some with hopes of bigger hair (my wash and go’s tend to have less volume).  Instead on a leave in a used Hollywood Beauty Olive Creme just to see if there was any difference. I applied the Eco Styler Olive Oil Gel (which I can’t stand the smell). I used a shingling method on medium sized sections then proceeded with a banana clip style that I have rocked almost all weekend.  I’m really loving this clip works great for work or partying and doesn’t take long to do.

Well here go the results and please ignore my cheap foundation:

Banana Clip Do 1

Banana Clip Do 3

Banana Clip Do 4

This gel is definately a keeper almost a HG. I just can’t let go of my KCCC. Eco Styler is consistant and doesn’t flake or leave build up. My hair is also moisturized and soft when it gets old and after rinsing it out. Feel free to share your eco styling stories and cocktails.

Eco Styling Success

Eco Styling Success

So it official… I lovvvvvvvvvvvvve Eco Styler gels. I used the clear one all weekend. Even used it on hair I had plopped dry and my curls were still popping. I even found a few new styles I have to share with you guys this week. I think its finally time to do some vids and tuts.

BTW the Krystal Eco Styler gets 4.5 out of 5 diamonds. It smells a lot better than  the Olive Oil one and its clear so it doesn’t have blue #40 and what not.

I even made my first official pineapple and that made for 3rd day hair. I will also share a tut on that this week for all hair lengths.

This week should be fun guys I will be purchasing so trader Joe’s and Oyin products maybe some Qhemet too. So stay tuned I plan to do some vids or pictorials on how to sleep with KCCC or curls period, my bantu knot outs, flat twists, and some wash and go styles. I might do an amla vid too depending on how everything goes.

Angelique
